How do I share/publish a Sentral Calendar to an external program (Outlook, Skoolbag)

Sentral Calendar has ical/ics support, and this can be used to view your Sentral Calendar in an external system, such as Skoolbag, Microsoft Outlook, or any program that supports ical/ics subscription.

Important to Note
To modify Calendar preferences, you need to be either either an Administrator or the owner of the calendar you want share.

To enable a Sentral Calendar to be viewable via an external system, you need to ensure that the following has been setup.

  • Login to Sentral and use the module menu to go to the Calendars module
  • Click the name of the calendar you wish to share publicly
  • Click the Preferences button above the calendar
  • Update the View Privileges setting to be Open: Anyone (note that this will mean anyone with the link will be able to see the entire calendar)
  • Click Save
  • Click Return to Calendar
  • In the browser's location field, append the text ?type=ical to the URL
  • Copy this whole URL to share the public iCal link with others
An example of this would be
https://sentral.myschool.nsw.edu.au/webcal/calendar/4?type=ical

Please note: If you are linking with an external system, the URL should be the publicly accessible URL, which in your case would be using the school's Reverse Proxy address of http://sentral.schoolname.edu.au/webcal... and not any internal school-only links, such as http://1.1.1.1/webcal/...

For Outlook
Different Versions of Outlook may differ slightly, but in Outlook.

  • Go to Calendars
  • Right click on My Calendars
  • Select Add Calendar, From Internet
  • Paste in the URL from the process above
For Skoolbag
Skoolbag has ical support. Please contact Skoolbag for further information and support.
