How do I report on EAL/D (English as another Language/Dialect)?

Use Case One – when there is a relatively small number of EAL/D students and the EAL/D Teacher will have access to all students but will require to add data ‘only’ to required students; EAL/D will be reported on as part of the mainstream report

  • Click on  Academic Reports Setup  > Reporting tab
  • Add EAL/D as a Subject (manual subject not from the repository); no need to add Strands/Outcomes unless required to be assessed
  •  Ensure the subject is added in the Assessment Schema (so student data can be entered)
  • Add the EAL/D teacher under Reporting > Staff Roles (either as a Teacher, if you require Teacher’s name on the report or as Assisting if not)
  • Ensure you have a Scale to assess EAL/D if an achievement assessment is required
  • Layouts > Report Template > Subject Layouts ensure there is a Layout for EAL/D as well (Note: as data is entered ‘only’ for the students requiring EAL/D, it will only print EAL/D data for those students)
  • EAL/D students can be grouped in a Lifeskills cohort (created under Reporting > Classes > Add Lifeskills) which allows creation of sub-class/cohort by class which they can then be appended to a different schema

Note: for more information please search for how to create Lifeskills cohort.

Use Case Two – where the EAL/D report has many pages and is very different to the mainstream report (e.g. text-heavy EAL/D report description; separate scale; and the creation of Lifeskills cohorts does not suit; you might consider setting up a separate Reporting Period for EAL/D students
