There are 2 ways to do this. 

• Activities Module – select the activity > Email > Parent, student or both parent and students. 

•  Messaging module – School can create groups within Messaging. Go to Address Book > Groups > Add Group.
•  Once Group added, members need to be added to the group. Select cohort > cohort type > activity of this cohort > activity instance and members.
