How to create a billing period

Sentral requires users to setup billing periods to complete a billing run. A billing period is the period of time
that the fees charged relates to. A Billing Period incorporates both bill cycles and bill periods. A bill cycle
refers to the calendar year, and bill period refers to the frequency, i.e. termly or annual.

Billing periods are useful for:
      - Stopping duplicate billing of a student – A student cannot be billed the same fee item twice in a billing Period
      - Filtering for Fees – Billing periods are a great filter when performing a billing run
      - Filtering in Registers – Useful for filtering for specific fees.

To create a billing period:
  1. Go to Finance module >
  2. Finance Setup.
  3. Select Billing Periods.
      Ensure that you have Cycles and Periods reflective of your needs available. If not, select Add to insert records.
  4. Select Add Billing Period.
  5. Give the billing period a name e.g. Semester 1, 2024.
  6. Select the Year (cycle) it relates to.
  7. Enter the start and end date of the period.
  8. Select the period e.g. Semester 1.
  9. Leave Duration blank.
      Ensure that the Billing periods line up with the frequency in which your school bills fees.
