How do "estimations" work?

Estimating marks in Sentral Markbook often causes confusion, as it uses z-scores to calculate a result. A z-score is, put simply, a measurement of how many standard deviations a students mark is from the average.

Description: This is not a standard calculation (i.e. cannot be a calculation column). It is used to estimate a student's missing mark (mark only, not calculation mark).
Accepts: One or more columns
Notes:

Estimates are calculated by looking at the student's average z score across columns where they have marks, and creating their estimated mark in the same position in the estimating column
Estimates are run by clicking on an empty task cell or existing estimate and choosing estimate.
Estimates cannot be run on non-empty, non-estimated cells even if the value is 0.
Saving a column that contains an estimate should retain knowledge that the mark is an estimate. Manually changing an estimated mark should assume that it is no longer an estimate.
It should not be possible to use the column for which a mark is being estimated as one of the columns that is being used to estimate

Other things to look out for:
You cannot estimate a mark if there are no other marks to compare against. You cannot, for example, estimate a mark for the first task. You enter task2 and task3, and then use those marks to estimate the missing students task1.
You cannot estimate an entire task, only by student who did not sit/complete the task.
The more data you have to compare against, the more "accurate" your estimation will be.
