You may see some messaging contacts denoted with a red asterisk (*). This represents a contact with differs from the Sentral Data Layer, because something has been manually overridden. 
Any contact marked as such will not be overridden by any data syncs with external systems.

An example where this may be the case is if your external system only has a single email field for a family, but you want to store separate mother and father details.
