How to set levels of Access in Markbook

There are two levels of access controls that can be applied to Faculty markbooks:

1. Global to the markbook:

When you click on a faculty markbook you will see a blue button called Access Levels among the list of buttons towards the left of the screen. These settings  apply to all task and calculation columns within this particular markbook, so they may not be practical depending on how markbooks are administered at your school.

2. Per column within the Faculty markbook:

Select a specific class markbook, click the orange edit markbook button

On the far right of each column listed down the screen is a button labelled Actions, from this select Configure ACLs (Access Control Levels)

Select the appropriate ACL for example view only after all marks have been entered.

These controls are an applied setting which means anyone with administrator level access to markbooks can reverse the setting.

To ensure documented, easily referenced and controlled access to Markbooks, you can utilise:

- Per-application permission settings based on User Role, found under:

  • Sentral Setup cog
  • Manage User Accounts
  • Manage User Permissions (left menu)
  • Select Markbook from the drop-down menu
  • Modify permissions relating to markbooks based on the Default Access Level applied to a staff member
  • RECOMMENDATION: SET ALL ROLES TO HAVE ‘NONE’ IN THIS SECTION, thus ensuring role-permissions are only applicable to whatever is made available to staff within the Markbook application itself; and/or

- Group-permission application:

  • Sentral Setup cog
  • Manage User Accounts
  • Manage Groups (left menu)
  • Create Markbook-specific user groups to enable categorisation of different staff members who may require different access outside of what is their ‘Default Access Level’.
  • RECOMMENDATION: Assign all users who are NOT required as Markbook Administrators have per-Markbook access of Teacher to ensure you have a list referencing who should be able to make certain changes as follows:

Markbook Admin has all access

Faculty HTs have permissions within their assigned Faculty only

Markbook Teachers have access according to the applied access level described in Point 1. above.
