Can I receive inbound SMS messages?

For absence SMS, all school can receive a response.
Step 1
  • Messaging > Messaging Setup > SMS Settings
Here you can define a time period for the length of time for which any SMS replies are deemed as a 'reply' to absence notification SMS. A suitable time period to trial with would be somewhere between 12 hours and 1 day.

  • Any absence SMS replies received  Messaging inbox
  • You can organise your inbound messages and change their statuses between Direct Message and Response, in Messaging module.
  • See direct messages: Messaging > Received Messages > Inbox
  • See all responses: Messaging > Outbound Messages > View Messages
  • If any absence messages have fallen into the Received Messages Inbox, you'll need to tag this message as a response to absence message. This opening the Inbox, clicking on the message, and on the right-side of screen will see a button Set as Response. Then press the Save button. You'll now be able to see the SMS response under:

  • Attendance > Notifications > Responses

Note: For schools with a Dedicated Number, Parents can send SMS at any time and do not require an initial message to be sent. Schools without a Dedicated can ONLY link absences responses to an attendance record not an inbound direct message.
